Author: Lori Dalrymple

Where do I begin? At the beginning I guess. I have always loved animals and nature. As I look back, my days as a child were spent lying out on the ground looking at the the ants coming in and out their hole, watching the going on with bees, chipmunks, squirrels and birds. I enjoyed hiking, swimming, planting flowers / gardens, camping and the sort. I found myself drawn to the outside with my dad working in the yard, than in with my mom cooking and cleaning the house. Something my mom would always try to break me of, but never succeeded at. As time passed, I followed my passion of animal care. Even though financially I could not afford to become a veterinarian, the love of animals and our beautiful world followed me all through my life and I found other ways to keep that passion going gaining experience in many different arenas of animal and environmental care. I received my Bachelors of Environmental Science and my Masters of Education to help promote and spread the word. Today, I rescue and rehabilitate animals including wild-birds, fish, cats and dogs and educate the public on animal welfare and environmental issues in New York. This has brought me considerable joy in my life. This website is a culmination of information in both my professional career and personal ideologies. As a proud citizen of New York and one of the founding families of Schenectady, Montgomery and Fulton Counties, my goal is to provide our communities trustworthy information so they can become better informed our earth and all of her wonders. As I look back at my life, and where I have come and where I am going, I would not have it any other way. Throw Down the Gauntlet of Pet Dander

My husband, author and artist, says that one’s deepest understanding comes from the most trivial of all matters. And what can be more trivial than dander. Everyone knows that getting rid of dander in your home can help you live a healthier, happier life. But getting there has always been a bit of a challenge….

She Goes Great With My Curtains!

In my previous life, I lived in downtown Schenectady on a dead end street. While sitting on my porch one evening a person drove down to the dead end sign opened their door and ‘threw out’ a small creature into the woods. Of course, being investigative in nature, I went down and picked up a…

Cat Tail Jitters

After my dad died, I found myself integrating two new cats into my household. As promised to my mom, then my dad, both on their deathbeds, that I would take care of them as they were their loving companions. So, my husband and I basically had to start from the very beginning, unsure of the…

The World Left Behind Still Moves On

It might be a bit morbid, but yes, all things die. I am saying this because, my dad just passed. My mom 2 and 1/2 years prior. Yet, the world left behind still moves on. However hard it may be for the rest of us. Tigger and Mishi, dad and moms cats, are staring at…

Analyzing Two Sides of the Animal Assisted Therapy Coin

Ok, let’s delve right in. What’s up with the fanatical dependency on animals for one’s mental health? Speaking as an animal lover, and on behalf of animals, I am just a tad concerned. It appears that people are using animals as emotional scapegoats – for whatever reason, I don’t know why – but it is…

Closer to Nature — Instead of Farther From It

Every Saturday, I spend the night visiting with my 90 year old dad. This night, around 6:30 pm, we decided to go to Jumpin’ Jacks for an ice cream treat and then go across to the park to see the flock of geese that have settled in for the night. Now that the weather is…

Out of GroupThink Mode and Back to Realty

I am not sure about you, but recently I have been reverting back to feeling lost and unsure of myself –just wanting to coil up, and relinquish control; as to not rock the boat, so to speak. One thing for sure, I am tired of all the drama. Trying to juggle work, family, and social…
