This section lists current animal welfare laws of New York. The rating is based the stage of the bill. If a bill passes the , it is sent on to the Senate, where it goes through a similar process. If both houses pass a bill, it is then sent to the governor for their signature. governor vetoes a bill, it can still become a law if a two-thirds majority of both houses votes in favor of the bill.1 star is a potential law being introduced and 6 stars is a law that has been accepted and signed by the governor. 1 star is an introduction of the bill, 6 stars and it has passed, the governor has signed it, and it has now become a law.
