Armstrong, Joanne and Leroy Burnham

Basic Information

July 2024 – Joanne Armstrong (73) and Leroy Burnham (62) were arrested for animal cruelty and neglect. Police served a search warrant, finding numerous animals that were allegedly malnourished, with lack of shelter, and lack of water on the farm. Armstrong and Burnham were arrested and charged with 13 counts of Agriculture and Markets Law 353 Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance (class “A” misdemeanor). Both were processed and released on appearance tickets at a later date in August.  The search warrant was a result of a complaint regarding animal cruelty-neglect.

2017 – Authorities seized around 140 animals from their farm. They pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty in 2018.

Aggravated cruelty to animals—as defined in Section 353-a of the Agriculture and Markets Law—is not a bail-eligible offense. Individuals charged with this felony are generally released without bail, regardless of the severity of the alleged act.
