April 2026 -Laura Hendrickson, 51, and Kenneth Sulgar, 45, each plead guilty to one count of aggravated cruelty to animals. According to prosecutors, Hendrickson and Sulgar both admitted to intentionally confining a dog to a crate for approximately 15 months. Authorities say the prolonged confinement led to severe pododermatitis and permanent disfigurement of the dog’s paws. Hendrickson also pleaded guilty, mid-trial, to additional charges, including two counts of torturing or injuring animals and failure to provide proper sustenance, as well as two counts of animal abandonment.  Sulgar entered his guilty plea before trial and is expected to be sentenced to five years of felony probation. Hendrickson faces a potential sentence of up to two years in prison. Both defendants will be required to register with the Cayuga County Animal Abuser Registry.

Aggravated cruelty to animals—as defined in Section 353-a of the Agriculture and Markets Law—is not a bail-eligible offense. Individuals charged with this felony are generally released without bail, regardless of the severity of the alleged act.
