13000 - Earliest depiction of whaling
People from Japan are considered among the first to practice whaling during the Jōmon period, 13000–300 BCE. The earliest depictions of whaling are the Neolithic Bangudae Petroglyphs in South Korea, dating back to approximately 6000–5000 BCE. These rock carvings show boats surrounding whales, using harpoons and lines, and demonstrate advanced, early hunting techniques of species like humpback and sperm whales.
