The Acastan is a period within the early Archean Eon. It is not part of the official Geologic Time Scale but is sometimes used by geologists to refer to the earliest part of the Archean, after the formation of Earth’s solid crust. It is characterized by the Late Heavy Bombardment, a period of intense meteorite impacts.
