Kirsch’s Maple Sugarhouse
Description
Making Maple Syrup
Although the “maple season,” when the trees give their sap, only takes place in early Spring, the rest of the year is spent preparing for those few short weeks. The maple sap is boiled on an evaporator. Our evaporator is fueled by wood, which is cut, split, and then stacked in the sugarhouse during the Summer months. Maintaining forest health from weather and pest damage and planting new maple trees is also an important part of the operation. Mother Nature plays a major roll in the maple season. Sap runs best in early Spring when the temperature is above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. The maple season is over when the trees begin to bud.
