Falconwood Farms

Today’s Falconwood Farms started with the ‘Home Farm’ – just under 200 acres straddling the border of New York and Connecticut- purchased by the Shelby family in the late 1960’s. The Home Farm, shown below, and part of the Oblong area, was owned and farmed almost continuously, having only about a dozen owners since the late 1600’s. A portion was sold to the Federal government to re-locate the Appalachian Trail across the top of the mountain on the Connecticut portion of the property. For about 300 years, farmers maintained and cleared the fields as far up the mountain as possible, while maximizing the usefulness and replenishing the soil for sustainable and successful vegetable, beef and dairy operations. In the 1980’s an additional farm a few miles away was purchased, and the ‘North Farm’, still owned by the Shelby family, is currently the home of the Falconwood Farms Apiary.
