KHADIJAH HOPKINS, 26, was sentenced to 8 years in State Prison to be followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision in Albany County Court for her role in burglarizing a home and setting a fire that killed a dog who was secured in a crate. HOPKINS pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and (1) Count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. HOPKINS was additionally sentenced to a concurrent 2 years determinate for the animal cruelty charge. Hopkins entered a residence of an acquaintance in the Town of Colonie and stole several items from the home. Before leaving, HOPKINS set the house on fire with the victim’s dog locked in a cage in the living room of the home. The dog died as a result of the fire.
